What is the Montana Abolition Coalition?

Originally started as an alliance of organizations, the Montana Abolition Coalition is a non-profit alliance of individuals working to abolish Montana's death penalty. Now is the time to build a grassroots organization of Montanans who want to end state-sanctioned killing carried out in our name.

ACLU and our sister organizations are mounting a full-fledged effort aimed at getting the 2009 Montana legislature to pass legislation that abolishes the death penalty in Montana and replaces it with life in prison without the possibility of parole (LWOP). We succeeded in 2007 in getting a bill out of the Senate but it was stalled in the House. With help from the grassroots of all of our organizations, with the involvement of Montanans across the state, and thanks to strong bi-partisan leadership we intend to prevail.
