About 100 civil libertarians gathered in Billings on March 10 to celebrate our rights and hear ACLU National Legal Director Steve Shapiro.

 

 

 

 

Shapiro spoke about how the National and affiliate offices work together to devise legal strategies to protect civil liberties at all levels and about how the current Justice Roberts-led U.S. Supreme Court views issues like privacy and the criminal justice system.

"Committment to principle and our competence and skill are what we have to support our work," he said.

Shapiro also participated with ACLU Legal Director Jon Ellingson and Montana attorney Kyle Gray in a panel to discuss issues related to campaign finance reform and the First Amendment.

Participants in the conference also learned about the ACLU of Montana's ongoing public policy and litigation work and discussed a wide variety of civil liberties issues during a roundtable session.
