Bio

Alex joined the ACLU of Montana as Legal Director in 2017.

Alex was born and raised in Homer, Alaska. He spent many years as a commercial fisherman, plying the waters of Alaska for salmon and halibut. Alex received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of California – Berkeley, and moved to Montana with his wife in 2006. In 2009, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Montana School of Law and opened Rate Law Office, P.C. in Livingston, Montana. His practice was dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals against corporations, insurance companies, government bureaucracies and employers.

Alex is a member of the State Bar of Montana, the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana and the Montana Trial Lawyers Association.

In his free time, Alex enjoys hiking the mountains and floating the rivers of Montana, with his family and dogs.
