Agustin Ramon was illegally held on an ICE detainer in Lincoln County. When he tried to pay his bond to secure his release from jail pending trial, he was informed that because of an ICE detainer, the jail could not release him. This case is similar to the class action we filed in Gallatin County. In a victory for Immigrants' Rights, the Montana Supreme Court ruled that local and state law enforcement do not have the authority to detain immigrants on ICE detainers.

Today, the Montana Supreme Court ruled in favor of Agustin Ramon, who was held by the Lincoln County Detention Center pursuant to a federal immigration detainer.  The lawsuit, filed by the ACLU of Montana, ACLU, and Border Crossing Law Firm, effectively ends the ability of state and local police and sheriffs in Montana to hold people based on federal immigration detainers.
