Summary

The First Amendment protects your right to assemble and express your views through protest. However, police and other government officials are allowed to place certain narrow restrictions on the exercise of speech rights.

Speakers from ACLU discuss:

  • our rights as protesters
  • the rights of counter protesters
  • where we can march
  • our rights when taking pictures or shoot videos at a rally
  • what to do if detained for protesting or for taking pictures
  • what to do if you believe your rights are violated
