No Kings Day events across Montana

NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to the Trump administration’s escalating abuses of power. We’ll be out in the streets on October 18 with communities across the country to condemn President Trump’s escalating abuses of power. Since taking office, the Trump administration has sent masked federal agents to arrest people without due process and deport them to torture prisons thousands of miles away, slashed Medicaid for people with disabilities, and attempted to silence students, professors, lawyers, the press, and their political opponents along the way. Please note: ACLU of Montana is not organizing these events, but we hope to see you there! Click here to find an event near you. On October 18, we are protesting across the country. Communities will gather to condemn President Trump’s abuses of power and send a clear message that the government must serve the people – not the president. More than 2,200 protests are planned in cities across the country, including Helena, Billings, Missoula, and more. This will be the largest mass mobilization since President Trump returned to office. The Trump administration is doubling down on attempts to further limit our First Amendment rights and use the federal government to attack political rivals, stifle dissent, and undermine checks and balances on presidential power. What we’ve seen so far is as troubling as it is illegal: The president is using the immense power of the federal government to silence opposition through fear. We will fight back across the country against attacks from the Trump administration because protecting our democracy isn’t a partisan issue – it’s an American imperative. The freedom to dissent without fear of government retribution is a vital part of any well-functioning democracy, which is why our leaders must protect this right no matter who is in office. To ensure even the most vulnerable communities here at home are able to exercise their rights, we need to fight back. Indigenous Peoples' Day celebrations across Montana

For the first time, Montana will officially recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a statewide holiday on October 13, 2025, a victory years in the making. After more than a decade of advocacy, Indigenous leaders and allies successfully passed Senate Bill 224 in the 2025 legislative session. This moment honors the many distinct Indigenous nations in Montana, uplifts their resilience and resistance, and is a chance for all of us to celebrate the strength and ongoing contributions of Indigenous communities across the state. Celebrate With Your Community Indigenous Peoples' Day events will be happening across the state from October 10–13. All events below are free and open to the public. Lone Peak Film Festival

Lone Peak Film Festival champions inspiring stories, builds community, offers mentorship, and supports local and Indigenous filmmakers, all to spark positive change and catalyze action. By offering stories of kindness, perseverance, resilience and positive action in the face of injustice or adverse circumstances, the festival creates spaces where people can come together and honor the goodness in humanity and build a nurturing community. It will be a counterweight to the relentless negativity of the mass media, offering compelling and well crafted stories that entertain as much as they move and inspire. By bringing these stories to a place like Big Sky, the festival hopes to connect the filmmakers, and the perspectives they provide, with people who can help them build their careers and expand the social impact of their films, all while creating an event that will be entertaining and will bring the community of Big Sky together. The festival aims to create opportunities for the sparks of hope offered in these stories to be fanned into flames that can make a positive impact locally and across the nation.
