Doug Johnson joined the ACLU of Montana in May 2026 as the new Director of Communications.
Doug is a strategic communications and global development leader with experience across Africa, Southeast Asia, and the United States. He has held senior roles with the U.S. Government, including as Development Outreach and Communications Advisor for USAID in Cambodia and Deputy Coordinator for the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in Botswana and Zimbabwe. His work has focused on public health, HIV/AIDS, development communications, advocacy, and multi-stakeholder partnerships, supporting governments, donors, civil society, and international organizations.
Doug began his career as a journalist with The Associated Press, reporting and editing news coverage across the United States before moving into international development as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Botswana. He holds a Master of Public Healthin Health Communication from the Colorado School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of New Mexico.
