Three days after the Blackfeet Nation brought a federal lawsuit against Pondera County arguing that the county was violating the voting rights of tribal members, Pondera County has agreed to make changes to make voting more accessible. 

A Montana court permanently struck down a state law today that severely restricted the right to vote for Indigenous people living on rural reservations.

Yellowstone County District Court has blocked a state law that severely restricts the right to vote for Native Americans. 

Yellowstone County District Court has issued a temporary restraining order blocking a state law that severely restricts Indigenous people’s right to vote. The action means the law is blocked pending the outcome of a hearing scheduled for May 29. The primary is June 2.

The ACLU of Montana has asked Secretary of State Corey Stapleton to take proactive steps to ensure that every qualified voter has access to the ballot box in 2020.

With the mid-term election right around the corner, the ACLU of Montana is working to ensure that all eligible voters can exercise their fundamental right to vote.
