Sam joined the ACLU of Montana in December 2020 and is serving as one of two Legislative Program Managers for the 2021 Legislative Session, managing legislative advocacy around the issues of voting rights, Indigenous justice, immigration rights and the state budget.

Sam spends summers working as a wildland firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service and has experience working as a lobbyist, organizer, and principle during the 2017 and 2019 Legislative Sessions advocating for affordable public higher education, public infrastructure funding, protecting tenants’ rights and strengthening protections for victims of sexual assault.

Sam graduated from the University of Montana in 2017. As a student, he served as President of the Associated Students of the University of Montana (ASUM) as well as the Montana Associated Students (MAS), representing over 40,000 students across the state of Montana.

Sam finds joy in Montana’s beautiful public lands, where he enjoys backcountry skiing, rock climbing, backpacking, rafting and running. He is an avid reader of the classics and philosophy, and is in perpetual search of someone with whom to play Scrabble.
