Roe v. Wade Rally Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 noon-1 p.m. Montana Capitol Rotunda
Free.

Women from across Montana will gather at the Montana Capitol Tuesday to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the historic U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, ensuring a woman’s legal right to make her own decision regarding pregnancy and abortion.

Women of all ages will be represented at the rally and luncheon in the Capitol Rotunda sponsored by the Montana Reproductive Rights Coalition. Speakers include elected representatives, health care providers and women’s rights activists.

“It’s important to remember what a momentous occasion the Roe v. Wade decision was for women in America. Before that ruling pregnant women were not allowed to make their own private medical decisions. Many died or were seriously injured in dangerous back alley abortions,” said Niki Zupanic, public policy director for the ACLU of Montana. “We can’t ever forget those days. Right now there are opponents of women’s rights seeking to undermine Roe v. Wade in Montana and across the country. We have to remain vigilant to make sure every woman is able to make the medical decisions that are right for her and her family.”

The Montana Reproductive Rights Coalition is composed of: the ACLU of Montana, NARAL Pro-Choice Montana, The Montana Human Rights Network, Blue Mountain Clinic, Planned Parenthood of Montana, The Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, AAUW of Montana, Montana League of Women Voters, Montana State Business and Professional Women, Montana Women Vote, Mountain Country Women's Clinic, and All Families Healthcare.
