The ACLU of Montana filed an administrative complaint with the Montana Human Rights Bureau over racial discrimination that Dr. Gilbert Kalonde, who is Black, faced while obtaining a fishing license from the Walmart store in Bozeman. We received a favorable ruling from the Montana Human Rights Bureau investigator, who found reasonable cause to believe unlawful racial discrimination occurred. The case was not resolved through conciliation and concluded with an agreement between the two parties that included a formal Walmart apology to Dr. Kalonde.
